Only after three dedicated souls gathered and collated a huge amount of data from many thousands of Fender amps and published their articles in 20th Century Guitar circa 2000 did the old serial numbers give us some guidelines as to how those serial numbers related to production dates. Fender serial numbers NEVER indicated date of production Except for the years from 1976 through the end of the 1980’s. People such as I learned to read codes to verify originality. ah.there is a close up of the QC label showing that two letter date code. It is not.it is from 1993 you can read the two letter date code on the QC is upside down on the side panel to our right in the looks like CB.February, 1993. Here is a 6G16 Vibroverb RI being sold as a 1990 amp. Any ’correlation’ between the serial number letters and numbers and the date of manufacture is purely coincidental, ime. I have read the two letter date code on the Quality Control label in amps in which the Serial number letters and numbers have nothing to do with the date of manufacture. The serial number is not 8n the numbers of the serial number, either.again, Dutch Ray’s testimony establishes that. It would be good had Fender put the two letter date code at the beginning of the serial number but that is not what they did.as evidenced by Dutch Ray’s post above. The serial number does NOT contain a date code. I have been reading date codes on 1990 and later Fenders for that long. I have been dating amps by component codes for decades. If the label is not there, then component date codes will indicate roughly when the amp was made. I have owned and worked on too many Fender amps.reissues, Pro Sonics, etc.NOT to understand how to date them. The small Quality Control label is not always there in a used amp, but the bottom line of the label will contain the date code. Click to expand.KC, this information that I gave is not incorrect.
